The Midgard serpent, Jormungandr, encircles the Sun Wheel, one of the oldest and most sacred of man's symbols. Sun Wheels feature on rock carvings and jewellery throughout the Norse world, marking the importance of the sun in agriculture and its traditional link with the precious metal gold.
